On Thursday three months of planning, coaching and preparing came to a head with the launch of four participating campaigns of the Indigenous Crowdfunding Program at a live event at Seed Spaces in Glebe, Sydney.

The Indigenous Crowdfunding Program is a new program to support the growth of Indigenous-led enterprises by leveraging crowdfunding to raise funds and reach new communities.

It is developed and delivered by StartSomeGood and First Innovators — an Indigenous-led not for profit organisation empowering the Indigenous community to be great leaders and business owners.

Founders Georgia, Michael and Fiona, along with Jack and Leanne from Westpac, Greg from First Innovators, Tom from StartSomeGood and Jo from Chocolate on Purpose.

Name: Michael Weir, Sacred Era

Location: North Coast NSW

Sacred Era exist to educate the broader community on First Nations culture and history and promote pride in the Indigenous community using streetwear and fashion. Michael is keen to use the Sacred Era streetwear brand to run workshops for Indigenous youth, and currently fundraising for a hip hop program called Beats with Benefits, which aims to educate and strengthen identity and self-respect. He’s crowdfunding to purchase some needed equipment so workshop participants can record and produce songs.

Fiona Harrison, Chocolate on Purpose

Location: Millthorpe, NSW.

The only 100% Indigenous Owned Cholate company, focused on creating unique delicious flavours using native ingredients — “The taste of Australia.” Fiona is fundraising to invest in machinery to allow her to scale up her production, which is currently limited by what she can make manually.

Georgia Weir, Deadly Runners

Location: North Coast NSW

Deadly Runners looks to bring First Nations people together through running in a cultural safe environment and inspire healthier lifestyles. The health benefits extend far beyond running, being in a positive space with other mob running alongside our children as role models is really inspiring. Deadly Runners is a social group, where we can yarn and support each other if needed, and the rewards of setting out and achieving your running goals works magic for the soul / mental health.

Sonia Pallett, Sonia Pallet Jewellery

Location: Lightening Ridge, NSW

“My jewellery reflects my culture. I have a symbols collection using universal Aboriginal symbols, such as waterholes, and most of my pieces are named in the Wiradjuri language and sharing where I grew up.” Sonia is fundraising to set up a permanent studio in Lightening Ridge, and eventually a gift shop.

All campaigns finish by March 24 and would love your support!
