Estonian fintech Tuum has brought in Sergei Anikin as its new CEO.

The former co-CEO and CTO at sales CRM Pipedrive will succeed Vilve Vene, who co-founded Tuum in 2019 (then Modularbank) and will now take on an advisory role.

Anikin’s appointment is part of the core banking platform’s wider expansion strategy to scale and drive sales across regions, Tuum said.

He brings more than 25 years of experience in leadership roles at technology firms to the table, having worked at Skype, Swedbank and Microsoft before landing at Pipedrive.

“With his strong technology and banking background, Sergei will bring a valuable, external perspective to the company and help to propel growth and expansion at this time of unprecedented demand for our flexible core banking solution,” Vene said.

“I have the utmost confidence in both his skillset and wisdom, and believe he is the best person to take Tuum to new heights,” he added.

According to the company, Anikin’s experience scaling businesses and creating organisational models will help as it prepares for “significant expansion”.

Tuum has plans to increase its headcount from 80 to 140 by the end of the year and to expand its operations across the EMEA region.

The core banking platform has also seen rapid growth over the last three years, with its contracted annual recurring revenue increasing more than three times in 2021 compared to the previous year.

“[Anikin] brings a wealth of experience to the company and strong leadership having grown Pipedrive from a small startup to Estonia’s 5th unicorn during his eight years there,” Tuum chairman of the board and karma.vc founding partner Margus Uudam said.

“The demand for next-generation core banking technology is growing quickly and Sergei’s expertise in managing global expansion will be a huge asset to Tuum as we drive the organisation to the next phase of development.”
