Who We Are

StartSomeGood is a social sector innovation catalyst. We run platforms and programs that build the capacity of grassroots changemakers and social entrepreneurs including StartSomeGood.com, a crowdfunding platform for positive change projects with the highest success rate in cause crowdfunding, the Good Hustle social enterprise design program and the #StartingGood Virtual Summit.

We also work with businesses, foundations and governments to better inspire social innovation and support social innovators. On our platform at StartSomeGood.com, we help changemakers raise the funds they need and mobilise their community to get started. So far, more than 1000 projects have raised over $15 million AUD. As part of our commitment to creating a better world we are a Registered B Corp and signee of the Founder Pledge.

StartSomeGood is a small social enterprise with huge ambitions. We need people who are collaborative but entrepreneurial, able to work well with others and knuckle down and get shit done in the face of startup uncertainty, complexity and hours. We need people who can move fast, speak frankly and make things happen.

We are on a journey of discovery and every day is different, but we’re creating the future together!

We are looking for a community manager and coach to support emerging social entrepreneurs.

WHO YOU ARE
You’re able to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple balls in the air. You have good communication skills and keep a positive can-do attitude even when things get a bit chaotic. You are comfortable as part of a virtual team, having had a similar experience before. You value flexibility and agency and are used to managing your own time. You have experience in online customer support, marketing or community management. You have experience in facilitation, coaching and customer or partner relationship management.

WHAT THE ROLE IS
You will work closely with StartSomeGood’s leadership team, focusing on some of our most valuable assets: our educational products and services, and our crowdfunding coaching and support. You will work across our Platform (StartSomeGood.com and related courses) and Learning Programs (our Good Hustle program and accelerators) with a focus on delivering coaching and facilitation to cohorts of early-stage social entrepreneurs.

This will include crowdfunding readiness progress, co-design support to individual partners and group-based capacity-building programs. These will primarily be delivered online, especially right now, but may involve some travel and live workshops in the future when that’s something we do again.

You will support the delivery of Good Hustle and white-labeled programs and support CEO Tom Dawkins to design and deliver accelerator and capacity-building programs. You will learn to deliver upgraded crowdfunding support and coaching to our partners and clients, ensuring that they are supported and empowered to tell their story, build their community and raise the funds they need to make a difference.

You will be fully trained on StartSomeGood’s coaching, campaign and enterprise development methodologies so this role will be a huge learning opportunity which will turn you into an expert at fundraising, pitching and social enterprise.

We welcome applications from people who have themselves crowdfunded before, especially if you used StartSomeGood!

StartSomeGood is seeking an ambitious and entrepreneurial accounts administrator for a part time (2 days / week) role.

WHO YOU ARE

You are detail-oriented, methodical and very reliable, comfortable with multiple priorities running on different timelines, with working independently and being responsible for your outcomes. You are able to work in an environment of uncertainty, and learn new skills and tools as the job calls for it — often on short notice! You’re not afraid to Google something you know nothing about, dive in and do a bunch of research, and make an educated guess.

You value flexibility and agency and are used to managing your own time, juggling multiple projects and getting a lot done with the time you have. You have worked in an operational or business/finance role before, for at least 2–3 years.

WHAT THE ROLE IS

You will work closely with our CEO and COO to manage various aspects of the company’s finances and operations. You will also manage our relationships with external service providers (accountants, lawyers, etc) and be responsible for providing them what they need to get their job done, as well as holding them accountable to expectations and deadlines.

Responsibilities:

● Liaise with accountants in both the US and Australia to manage both quarterly and annual tax and compliance filings, assuring that all filings and associated issues are completed prior to the filing deadline

● Manage and reconcile the company’s day to day financial activity in Xero, as well as doing more detailed end of month accounting each month for both the US and Australian company

● Manage and execute monthly payroll

● Track spending across various project budgets

● Issue invoices for work outstanding and process and pay invoices that we owe to vendors

● Prepare quarterly financial reports and calculate the company burnrate on an ongoing basis

● Help manage recruitment and onboard for new staff and interns;

● Help with operational tasks like organising travel, venues, catering and printing;

● Other administrative assistance as required by the CEO and COO.

You will need:

● Entrepreneurial skills — the ability to do a lot with a little and manage diverse tasks

● Math and finance skills — you do not need an advanced math or finance degree, but you must be comfortable dealing with spreadsheets and numbers, and making sense of the company bank accounts, budget, and runway. You will need to be able to do basic invoicing and bookkeeping.

● The ability to self organize and project manage — you are able to manage your own todo list, determine your own priorities, and keep track of a variety of tasks until they reach completion

● To be detail oriented — you don’t mind occasionally getting into the nitty gritty of documents and/or financial statements to try to get to the bottom of an issue or look for a red herring

● To be a fast learner and willing to learn new skills as new opportunities/challenges arise

● To be comfortable working in a fast paced and somewhat chaotic startup environment

● A comfort level with being part of a virtual team (some experience of this preferred but not required for the right person).
